Edition Notes
Holograph, signed.
Esther Sturge liked some of the articles in the Liberator. She tells about Lord Ellenborough's work for the removal of "all kinds of slavery" in India. Sturge writes: "We cannot help thinking the difficulty much greater for you, as there are so many powers to contend with and a blind prejudice to oppose especially that of colour, your very children have learned it as with their very growth, ..." Sturge suggests raising a fund to help runaway slaves. She notes improvement in the condition of the English poor. Esther Sturge's brothers, Thomas, Samuel, and George have been active; one brother has been involved with the Manufacturers Relief Committee.
