Edition Notes

Reprint of the 1893 ed., published by University Press, Cambridge, Eng. which was a reprint of the first ed., with a few verbal corrections and the substitution of a fresh literal translation of a few lines of the Armenian version cited on p. 78. cf. pref.

The original text of the Apology is lost. A recension of it is preserved in the Greek version of the legend of Barlaam and Joasaph (Nachor's speech to the king) Besides the Syriac translation, discovered by P. R. Harris in 1889, a fragment of an Armenian translation exists in two manuscripts which contain the first two chapters.
