The effectiveness of ultraviolet (UV) light to eradicate iron cyanide in gold mill tailings was assessed. The experiments done to determine the best UV conditions for cyanide removal were outlined. The three types of samples used were: process wastewater, synthetic aqueous potassium ferricyanide and overflow from a tailings pond. The results and recommendations for each test were discussed.
