Research was conducted in order to develop a viable means of enumerating iron oxidizing bacteria such as Thiobacillus ferrooxidans. A modification of the most probable number techniques was developed for this purpose. This method was then tested on three strains of Thiobacillus ferroxidans, and its advantage over other cell counting methods were discussed.
