Author supplied by H&L and ESTC; the DNB refers to this work as Clarke's 'chief literary labour'; 'Queen Caroline was sincerely attached to Clarke, and he reciprocated her feeling'; the DNB article on Queen Caroline states: 'She would gladly have placed on the bench Dr. Clarke, for whose learning and character she had the deepest respect, but he repeatedly declined ... ' The work was printed in German, at Altona, in the same year.
