Stearns resided in New York at this time, and there published his Universal kalendar for 1783. Page [3] of The navigator's kalendar indicates that its author is "the author of the Univeral kalendar."
On pages 32 and 44 of his The American oracle (New York, 1791), Stearns refers to himself as having calculated America's first nautical almanac and published it on Dec. 20, 1782. "I only undertook the task once."
