James Edmond Macdonnell was an Australian novelist. He wrote many short stories for 'The Bulletin' under the pseudonym "Macnell". He wrote over 200 novels, in at least 7 different series under several versions of his own name and several pseudonyms (James Dark was a Horwitz house pseudonym shared by several authors) and became one of Australia's most prolific writers of paperback novels. - Wikipedia
