He was born in Guadalajara, State of Jalisco (Mexico); son of Don José Ignacio Veytia y Ontiveros, and of Doña María Manuela Valencia y Díaz. After his trip to California, he married in 1863 with Doña Mercedes Reyes y Delgado, with one daughter, Doña Matilde Veytia Reyes, who on her behalf, married with her first-cousin Don Luis Veytia y Villaseñor; their son was Don Salvador Veytia y Veytia, who was born in Guadalajara in 1900.
His oil on canvas portrait was published by the first time in the first edition (1975) of his "Viaje a la Alta California, 1849-1850".
