This book is about the bombing campaign in Europe during WWII. Harry Conley was one of the earliest bomber pilots sent to England, and his experiences there are the stuff of legend. Out of his original squadron, only Harry, Grif Mumford (led the first raid on Berlin), and Bob Cosens got to the end of the war both alive and not captured after being shot down.

Of course the book covers the historically important raids; but, it also has a personal touch. Before writing the book, Harry found a box in his attic that contained every letter he wrote to his mother during the war. You'll read about an air battle, and you'll read what he wrote to his mother. It's a fascinating and unique look at the war.

Harry Conley was a friend of mine, taught me most of what I know about Horsemanship. Stuart Whittelsey acutally created the first draft, recording Harry's stories and transcribing them. Stuart was my step-father.

Both men have left us now, but they left behind a wonderful tale of an amazing war effort.
