Mossbauer spectrometry was used to determine the biodistribution of radionuclides in the tissues of freshwater mussels from Magela Creek in the Northern Territory of Australia. The objective of the examination was to determine the role of iron in the mussel, and what influence it had on its abiotic or biotic processes. In addition, it was explained that these mussels were a traditional diet of the local Aborigines.
