"Beware the Dairymaid," warns Uncle Paul when Gabe and his grandfather set off for Ghost Island. For the past two years, Grandfather has asked Gabe's older sister, Ginny, to help shear the sheep, but this spring he has invited Gabe instead. Gabe is thrilled! Finally, he'll be able to prove to himself and his grandfather that he's not as clumsy as Ginny thinks. Staying overnight on Ghost Island turns into a nightmare, however, when Gabe sees the ghost who supposedly haunts the island. Is it really the dairymaid who drowned years ago? Or is the dairymaid still alive? Fantasy turns into reality as Gabe learns more about the ghost woman-and forges a bond with his prickly older sister in the process.
