"This monograph upon the Mecklenburg declaration of independence was read before the Scotch-Irish society of America at its meeting in Lexington, Virginia, on June 21, 1895, and is printed in vol. VII of the transactions of that association. It has since been revised and enlarged."--Pref.
It was also read before other societies, and printed with some changes in the North Carolina university magazine, May, 1895, and as a separate pamphlet "Why North Carolinians believe in the Mecklenburg declaration."
