In this edition the privy council ordered pp. 421-424, 433-436, 443-450 of vol. 2 and pp. 1328-1331, 1419-1538 of vol. 3 to be excised, and to replace the last of these omissions, four new leaves were printed, paged 1419, 1420, 1421, 1490, 1491, 1536, 1537, 1538.

The first ed. was pub. in 1577, comp. by Holinshed, William Harrison and Richard Stanyhurst. The 1587 (2d) ed. was edited by John Hooker, assisted by Francis Thynne, Abraham Fleming and John Stow.
