Charming memior of a woman's stint with the Ringling Circus during the 1940s. By a twist of chance, Clausen became a dancer/elephant rider with the circus for the season. This was a neat trick since she couldn't dance and disliked elephants. The author is amusingly self-deprecating. I thoroughly enjoyed this book despite having no great interest in circuses.
Cameo appearances by George Ballanchine and John Murray Anderson who worked on some circus numbers while Clausen was with the company.
Explains many slang phrases used by circuses. Also addresses the issues raised by living aboard circus trains.
