The play is an alteration of Thomas Betterton's 'The Revenge', itself an alteration of John Marston's 'Dutch Courtezan.' - 'A key to The beggars opera in a letter to Caleb Danvers, Esq;' signed by Phil. Harmonicus is probably by D'anvers [Nicholas Amhurst] himself.
