This is a coffee table style book (14" x 9") that features 35 full-page color photographs of the antebellum mansions in Natchez, Mississippi. Accompanying each photograph is a short history of each home beginning with the families who built them, the owners through the years since, ending with the status of the home's owners as of 1957. Any significant historical data connected to the homes concerning political figures, prominent businessmen, and military involvement in the Civil War is also included. A nice collection of antique black and white photographs of different city scenes in the 1890's are found in the back of the book. The author was born in Tifton, Georgia, lived in South Carolina, and "became instensely interested in the life and times of the Civil War period" from stories his Grandmother told him. When he visited Natchez for the first time, he met his wife whom he married in 1948, and made his permanent home in Natchez. The book was published in 1957 by Southern Historical Publications, Inc, and the Library of Congress Catalog Card number is 57-9055.
