A charming novel, which somehow manages to be sweet and full of happy coincidences without being twee. It tells the story of Dorothy, who was brought up by her aunt after her parents were killed in a motor accident when she was a baby. After the aunt dies, Dorothy, by then a middle aged schoolteacher, finds herself very lonely and without any family. She decides to go to France to see if she can find her French father's estranged relatives, having nothing but his old family album with which to trace them. She happily finds much more than she was expecting.
This novel was published in 1952, and gives a lovely affectionate picture of post-war France. The Sunday Times reviewed it, and considered it had 'something of the charm of Cranford'. It really deserves to be reprinted.
