Lasers, Lightwave of the Future is a popular account of the development and use of lasers. It includes chapters on their then emerging use in medicine, science, communications and weapons. It includes many photographs of laser researchers such as Theodore Maimen, who invented lasters, and Dr. Charles Townes and Arthur Schawlow, among others. Written in the early 1980s, it correctly predicted many later advances in the field. The author, Allan Maurer, was also a writer for OMNI magazine, which focused on the future.
