Excerpts

Our earliest proven ancestor was Drew Hembree, a farmer. One of the theories advanced by a fellow-researcher, Dan Hembree of Texas, is Drew could have been the son of James and Sarah Hembree of Granville County, North Carolina in 1752. By 1772, they resided in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Joel Byrd Hembree might have been Drew's brother. (More information on Joel Byrd Hembree can be found in the chapter of the First Nation-wide Hembree Family Reunion- 1978.) Drew Hembree died in Taney County, Missouri about 1845.
