In 1895, 15 year old Annie Kempton of Bear River, Nova Scotia, was murdered during an attempt of sexual assault. Accused was a non-resident of Bear River, a former seaman, Peter Wheeler. Wheeler was hung from the gallows in 1896 in Digby, Nova Scotia,
