Edition Notes

The explanatory text that accompanies the illustrations is probably by Michael Hutchins, who printed the book.
"Among our collection of Victorian wood blocks are all but two of the engravings for Three jovial huntsmen"--P. 12-14. Caldecott's The three jovial huntsmen, published in 1880, was an adaptation of a story from Edwin Waugh's Old cronies. Caldecott did not mention this at the time. Moreover he credited all 32 wood blocks to his regular engraver, Edmund Evans, though 3 were by John Heywood, of Manchester.
"Seventy-five copies are for sale"--Colophon.
