Edition Notes

Consists of 11 copper etched plates printed in brown on heavy paper.

All plates, except one, are signed "Geo Cruikshank", "George Cruikshank", "Taken on the spot by George Cruikshank", "Sketched & Etched by Geore. Cruikshank" or "Designed & Etched by George Cruikshank". Some are also signed "Pubd. by D. Bogue 86 Fleet St.", "Published by David Bogue, 86, Fleet Street, London, June 28th, 1851.", "Pubd. by D Bogue 86 Fleet St July 1st 1851" or "Pub. by D. Bogue 86 Fleet St. London".

Plate [3] includes text incorporated within the image: ""1851" by Henry Mayhew and George Cruikshank".

All etchings, except plate [6], are the same as those used in an [1851] edition of the title published by George Newbold. See McLean O 0432.

MASS copy: Plates are loosely inserted in a dark blue half morocco-grain cloth and paper-covered board portfolio with paper flaps on the inside lower cover and a cloth tie at the fore-edge.
