Edition Notes
First edition entered in the Stationers' register 22 Mar. 1594 under title "A most sweete song of an English merchant that killed a man in Guidine [i.e. Emden?]" & evidently printed before 1606; when some lines were quoted in "A pleasant comedie called Wily begvilde", leaf B4r.
At least four other editions are subsumed under Crawford 1029 (Wing M 2924), with imprints [London] Printed for F. Coles, T. Vere, and W. Gilbertson [ca. 1660?]; London, Printed for F. Coles, T. Vere and J. Wright [ca. 1670?]; London: Printed for A. M[ilbourn]. W. O[nley]. and T. Thackeray, at the Angel in Duck-lane [ca. 1695?]; [London] Printed by and for W. O[nley]. and London-bride [!] [ca. 1697?]. These are Euing 232 & 230, Crawford 1029 & Euing 231, respectively. Euing 231 is in black letter; the present edition, which uses the same woodcut block & corrects many of the misprints, is in roman letter.
