You are desired to meet the booksellers who lately petitioned Parliament for relief, at the Devil Tavern at Temple-Bar, on Thursday next the 16th instant, at five o'clock in the afternoon, on special affairs

Invitation sent by bookseller John Wilkie to a meeting with the booksellers who petitioned Parliament regarding the "relief of booksellers ... by vesting the copies of printed books in the purchasers of such copies from authors ... for a limited time," which was part of the so-called "battle of the booksellers," a campaign by booksellers advocating for perpetual copyright under common law.
