Edition Notes

Aaron Bancroft's "Preliminary history" is prefixed to his "The benefits resulting to the family of man from the mediation of Jesus Christ", 1821.

Attributed to Aaron Bancroft in Sabin, no.3094, and in William B. Sprague's Annals of the American Pulpit, v.8, p.136, but Bancroft does not include this title on any of his lists of publications in manuscript at the American Antiquarian Society. Also, cf. p.[3]: "... it is now rendered certain that the Rev. Dr. Bancroft will not formally reply to Mr. Barstow's pamphlet ..."

Text indicates that the pamphlet was probably published by members of the original Committee of the Town for Hiring a Candidate [i.e. for the pastorate of the Keene Congregational Church]. The final statement of the Committee is signed on p.21 by Daniel Bradford, John Wood, and Dan Hough.
