Occasioned by the departure, ca. 1786, of German mercenaries, led by Karl Eugen of Wittemberg, for South Africa. The typography suggests Pennsylvania, perhaps Ephrata, as place of publication. The Cape song, with slight variations in text, was also published in Der Hoch-deutsche americanische Calendar, auf das Jahr 1801 (Germantown, Pa. : Michael Billmeyer, [1800])
