Full title: The history of the Conquest of Spain by the Moors. Together with the Life of the Most Illustrious Monarch Almanzor. And of the several Revolutions Of the mighty Empire of the Caliphs, and of the African Kingdoms. Composed in Arabick by Abulcacim Tariff Abentariq, one of the Generals in that Spanish Expedition; and Translated into Spanish by Michael de Luna, Interpreter to Philip the Second. Now made English.

8vo. f. [1] (blank),16, pp. 237, [5] (blank). Tooled calf. Gilt spine. Bookplates of [Robert?] Throp and John Brownrigg.

The first complete English edition of an ‘eyewitness’ account of the Moorish conquest of Spain, supposedly translated from an Arabic manuscript discovered ‘in the Escorial’ by Miguel de Luna. The first edition of this historical forgery (or romance), titled ‘La verdadera hystoria del rey Don Rodrigo,’ was published at Granada, 1592-1600. The first ‘partial’ translation was in 1627: see L. F. Bernabé Pons, Historia verdadera del rey Don Rodrigo Edición Facsímil Estudio preliminar por Luis F. Bernabé Pons. Granada, 2001 (Bib# 2303415/Fr# 264 in this collection).
