This client wasn't Mickey Spillane's usual. He was a man Spillane had sent to prison and he wanted desperately to find his missing sister. The only clue was a mound of filmy, exotic garments. As Spillane followed the little he had to go on, something like a pattern began to emerge. He knew he was missing something, and whatever it was kept gnawing at the corners of his mind. The single strand he had seemed to tie in to the deaths of two women, but red herrings fouled the trail. Then he stumbled on it - shielded in diplomatic immunity!

Mike Hammer is moving through the dark streets of New York City when he hears a child emit a terrible scream of fear. When he finds the child he also discovers the nude body of a beautiful woman who has been beaten to death with a whip. Thus begins a complicated and baffling case involving the deaths of a few more women, a murdered newspaper reporter who was tracking the case, and the sordid life of the prostitutes in the city. Mike uncovers a sadistic ring that exploits women and, in the end, Velda comes through and Mike defeats the ring by literally blowing it away.
