Emile Digeon a été, en mars 1871, le chef de la Commune de Narbonne. Déporté avec son père en Algérie en 1852, il s'enfuit aux Baléares où il épouse une riche veuve, amie de Georges Sand et de Chopin, et devient banquier. Revenu en France après vingt ans d'exil, il milite auprès des socialistes puis des anarchistes en se fixant pour objectif l'union de tous les révolutionnaires. Dans sa correspondance avec Louise Michel, Jules Guesde, Louis Blanc, jamais il n'évoque son exil. N'assumait-il pas la "contradiction" entre ses activités à Palma de Majorque et son militantisme révolutionnaire ?
