"Though the title of this hymn states that the author was Whitefield, it was first printed in the first series of Charles Wesley's funeral hymns. ... See also Charles Wesley's 'Journal,' vol. 1, 1849, p. 379, for the occasion which inspired the poem."--Sabin, entry 102643.
