In March 1896, the Ndebele (Matabele) people revolted against the authority of the British South Africa Company. When the Matabele began their rebellion several military units were raised by the white settlers to protect their citizens. One of these units, the Bulawayo Field Force, was raised on March 25, 1896 and disbanded on July 4, 1896.
