I have a copy from 1902, printed by Funk & Wagnalls in New York City. This book contains 31 sermons by the eminent British pulpiteer and Bible expositor, Alexander MacLaren. The sermons are from toward the end of his nearly 65 year preaching career and are classic MacLaren with rich Biblical exposition, powerful illustrations, and an obvious intimate relation with the Christ He preaches about. The first three sermons carry the title of the book, Triumphant Certainties, and are from the First Epistle of John. These three messages have to do with the triumphal certainties of salvation and walking in grace with Christ. The sermons that follow provide a rich tapestry of gospel teaching, from the life of Christ, as well as several Old Testament texts about God, the Father. This book is part of literally dozens of books MacLaren published during his 65 year ministry although he didn't begin to publish until he was 36 years old, most of them being from his transcribed sermons which required very little editing because of his polished, capable style of presentation. There is a sense of spiritual authority and of the grace of the Spirit of Christ on this book, something common to nearly every MacLaren book I have and I have probably 35 of them. I recommend this book to everyone who can read. Jay Hines
