Traditionally ascribed to Samuel of Morocco, a Jewish convert to Christianity, the text is known first in the Latin translation of Alphonsus Bonihominis (died ca. 1353); Alphonsus was probably in fact the author of the text. Cf. M. Marsmann, Epistel des Rabbi Samuel an Rabbi Isaak, 1971.
