Edition Notes

Originally issued in London and printed by G. Kearsly from 1768-1770 in six numbers. Serial issues were printed with continuous paging and registration, and an appendix, each number with individual half-title and title-page not included in the paging. This cumulative volume contains text of the six numbers, with general title page, a table of contents and index, followed by issues no. I (1768) - no. VI (1770), with half-title and title pages. An Appendix was separately issued under title: Appendix to the American gazette; containing an appeal to the world, or, A vindication of the town of Boston, from many false and malicious aspersions, contained in certain letters and memorials written by Governor Bernard, General Gage, Commodore Hood, the commissioners of the American Board of customs, and others; and by them respectively transmitted to the British ministry, first printed in Boston, and reprinted in London by G. Kearsly, in 1769. Adams has attributed most of the authorship of this Appendix to Samuel Adams.

Date and edition of the individual parts varies from copy to copy of the collection.

Journal of transactions in Boston (p. 177-181, 267-320) was reprinted from The Boston evening post, transmitted by Andrew Eliot to Thomas Hollis, at his request. Cf. Mass. Historical Society proceedings.

Signatures: [A]⁶ B-2I⁴ (L2f missigned B2) 2K⁶ 2L-3O⁴ (-3O4).

Errors in paging: p. 245 and 451 misnumbered 254 and 151.
