"What, then, is the 'Act and testimony'? It is a new 'confession of faith,' or a recently invented test of orthodoxy, agreed upon, subscribed, and published, by thirty-seven ministers, and twenty-seven ruling elders of the Presbyterian Church, at the close of the last general assembly, in Philadelphia. It occupies, exclusive of the array of sixty-four names appended, a little less than two columns in a religious newspaper ..."--p. 4.
