JFK for a new generation

Conover Hunt dedicates JFK for a New Generation to people born after 1960 who do not remember John Fitzgerald Kennedy. But in this volume Hunt provides valuable insights for readers of all ages into the origins of one of the nation's most powerful myths, the nature and chronology of the debate about Kennedy's accomplishments, and the birth of the controversy over his assassination in 1963.

In this lavishly illustrated volume, Hunt traces the changes in American society between 1963 and 1995 that have influenced the image of JFK since his death, and records her recollections of the people and events that reshaped the collective memory of those who "knew" Kennedy during the Sixties. She does not take sides on the issue of Kennedy's effectiveness as a leader, his character, or the reasons for his death, and instead presents a foundation from which readers can make their own judgments.

JFK is not academic history; its broad content and informal tone reflect the years Hunt worked with international audiences at Dealey Plaza in Dallas, first as project director to organize The Sixth Floor Museum there, and later to assure the preservation of the assassination site. JFK for a New Generation will provoke lively discussions among all generations of Americans.
