debates and literature (that is, rational choice and game theory) which represent political phenomena as technical ones (Paterson, 1995). It is depoliticising in the sense that it abstracts from questions of power, and it attempts (though it fails, as such attempts necessarily do) to exclude normative questions from the field of study.
