Title and imprint from plan (first leaf): Plan du labirinte de Versailles.

Swidde has re-worked the engravings of fountains originally by Sébastien Le Clerc, first published in Paris, 1677 with a text by Charles Perrault and quatrains by Isaac de Benserade detailing the fables from Aesop depicted in the fountains ornamenting the labyrinth. The labyrinth was destroyed in 1774, and is now the site of the Bosquet de la Reine.

An edition of Swidde's engraving of the Labyrinth apparently appeared in Amsterdam published by Visscher in 1682 with text in four languages: French, English, German and Dutch. Kramm reports a Visscher edition with a Dutch title Het Doolhof van Versailles with 39 plates dating it 1682.
