Two children find a woman's body which is later identified first by a female friend called Ruby Cox as Diane Shaft and, a short time later, by a male friend Aiden Brooks as Cecily Staunton. So the immediate question for DI Sally Speckle is, why had the dead woman two names?Cox, increasingly uneasy that she has come forward, takes advantage of a false fire alarm at Loston police station to vanish. Meanwhile, Brooks, who claims he is a clairvoyant, pinpoints with uncanny accuracy where the body might be. In fact it has already been found there. Does Brooks have special powers? Or does his knowledge spring from the fact that he may be the killer?As the investigation proceeds, suspects very close to home come into the picture when a police sergeant and his wife become suspects, both of whom are friends of Speckle. And when Harold Brooks, Aiden Brooks' father, has his throat slashed in the park near where he lives with his sister, yet more possible killers come into view until DI Sally Speckle has more suspects than she wants, each one, right to when the killer is revealed, very much real possibilities.
