MASS copy 1: Bound in blue morocco-grain cloth blocked in gold and blind with spine signed [AW?] [i.e. Albert Henry Warren]; a.e.g. Upper cover blocked in gold with titling design within a central ogee-like shaped panel. Binding design was also used on McLean O 388, and used on McLean O 33 with an additional signature "AW" on the upper cover titling design. Boards with bevelled edges; a.e.g. With armorial bookplate: "Stephen Herbert Gatty" and presentation inscription to "S. H. Gatty" from "R. B. Michell".

MASS copy 2: Bound in bright green morocco-grain cloth blocked in gold and black in the same design as copy 1, but with the central titling design blocked in gold on both the upper and lower covers. Boards with bevelled edges; a.e.g. With binder's ticket: "Bound by Bone & Son, 76, Fleet St. London.". With presentation inscription dated 1859. With bookplate: "Ex libris C. J. Peacock.".

MASS copy 3: Bound in bright green morocco-grain cloth blocked in gold and black in the same design and with the same binder's ticket as copy 2. With presentation inscription to "Ellen Waterhouse" from "Maria Jane Crewdson" dated 1859. Lacking Signature marks "D" on p. 17 and "H" on p. 49.

MASS copy 4: Bound in orange morocco-grain cloth blocked in gold and black in the same design and with the same binder's ticket as copies 2 and 3. With embossed stamp: "Wight & Bailey Promenade Cheltenham". With prize inscription dated 1860 at "Elm Field" to "Julia Nicholas First Prize for Chronology" and subsequent presentation inscription to "E. H. H. Shorting" from "Aunt Julia".
