This was the FIRST attempt to enlarge Emil Staiger's generally accepted THREE Grundbegriffe (lyrisch, episch, dramatisch) by a FOURTH one ("audience-related" or "artistic"), which could accomodate genres (e.g. Cabaret Songs, about which I already had written another book and received the PhD-degree from McGill University, Montreal, and the Dr. phil. degree from Goettingen University), and which had been completely ignored by literary science.
