Edition Notes
Virgule replaced by comma in imprint transcription.
Translation of: The English empire in America: or A prospect of His Majesties dominions in the West-Indies / by Nathaniel Crouch, first printed London, 1685, which has been erroneously attributed to Richard Blome.
R.B., or Richard or Robert Burton were pseudonyms of Nathaniel Crouch. The German publisher misinterpreted the "R.B." on the title page of the English edition and though it to be a translation of Richard Blome's The present state of His Majesties isles and territories in America, first printed in London, 1687.
Chapters 1 and 2, "Von der ersten Entdeckung der Neuen Welt oder America" and "Von den Reisen und Erfindungen unterschiedlicher Engeländer in America," are not contained in the original.
Includes accounts of travels in: Newfoundland, New England, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, the Carolina, the Bermuda Islands, Barbuda, Anguilla, Montserrat, Dominica, St. Vincent, St. Kitts and Nevis, Barbados, and Jamaica.
Signatures: a-c¹² (a1 verso blank) A-2H¹² (2A5 missigned 2A3)
Engraved head and tail pieces; initials.
Includes two maps, one of Newfoundland (bound to face p. [72], 1st count) and one of the West Indian Islands (bound to face p. 660) and two illustrations of indigenous peoples and animals of the Americas (bound to face p. 580 and p. 588)
