Edition Notes

These for chapters and 3 video lessons are foundation of the growth of one's soft skills or life skills. Once you understand and got it practised as a second nature, then no look back in your life and career.

                                             Chapter -1
                                       Imparting Life Skills

In the year 2015 United Nations Organization declared 15 July as ‘World Youth Skills Day’.
In general we get or give education to earn our livelihood no matter whether it is lavish or hand-to-mouth mode of operation. Doing any job we need certain skills, therefore many countson vocational education which increases peculiarity in specific sectors. Efficiency is of two types: Hard skill and soft skill.

Hard skill is, to be efficient in certain domain. Like a doctor who studies medicine, s/he becomes specialist. When they study further in particular subjects like pediatric or child specialist, cardiologist or heart specialist, Eye specialist. In the field of engineering aeronautic engineer, space engineer, electronics engineer, computer engineer. An editor, who has mastery over language and traits to play with words, can create attractive headline or title, strong content or possesses proof-reading proficiency. Small time adroitness like training or experience in a call center, customer care, A good teacher is, who understands student’s need and encourages interactive teaching mode.

Soft skill is combination of skills which makes hard skills viable in practice. Mediocre soft skills are communication which implies how to greet, sit, start and close a conversation, body posture , writing official e-mails or texts, team-work, critical thinking, leadership, problem solving , Time management.

Now question arises while we are living in an age of overlapping information, there are several courses, printer e-books available on soft skills, even one can find free articles and videos on it surfing Google, YouTube yet there is a dearth of viable work culture both in public and private sectors.

According to James K. Harter, Gallup’s chief scientist for workplace management, following causes are responsible for staff quitting their job:
- 32% quit lacking promotional opportunities
- 22% do not consider pay benefit suits their capability
- 20.2% are not fit for the job
- 17% for unhealthy work environment or inefficient management
- 8% cannot adjust to time schedule
- 2% deficiency of job security
If this is the condition in private sectors, service quality or soft skills in public sector pronounce itself cripple because they have not much to worry about security of their job.

The essence of soft skill is much more than the above mentioned traits. It lies in personality development not only mannerism in well dress up, or holding wine glass in a party or table manners, though these competencies are necessary for professional or decent socialites.

Personality development lies in:
- Positive competitiveness, means compete with your own self or skills improving each day.
- Curbing corruption like bribing, sex appeal, nepotism
- Having positive attitude avoiding aversive habits like ill talking, taunting, bullying, unnecessary interference , back-biting
- Improving empathy
- Respecting diversity, coming out of the cage of meanness like gender inequality, regionalism, ethnicity, disability, race, age factors
- Broadening outlook by making oneself updated and opens to break sick conventions or status quo applying do-gooder attitudes.

All these are real soft-skills which work forces and managements shouldimplement scientifically, and then outcome will be seen in employee’s affinity in private –sectors or service primacy in public sectors. The necessity is stake holders should leave the herd mentality and impart qualitative life skills.

                                        Chapter -2
                                        Social Skills

Your time is limited, so do not waste it living someone else’s life. Do not be trapped by other people’s thinking. Do not let others' opinions let you down. Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition” – Steve Jobs.
Definitions of Social skills revolve around quantity than quality.
What is social skill? Is it different from soft skills? The answer would be Social skill is a whole spectrum of character and personality building. While soft skills are a part of social skills just like Machine learning is a fragmentation of Artificial Intelligence.
To many, social skill is the proof of a bunch of people. The real social skills are:
1) Civility – know your limits to become well-mannered in action and speech. Just like hollow pot sounds much, an uncivilized person does not bother to pour its dirty mouth into another’s life.
2) Self-respectful –becoming self-respectful is the fast and foremost thing is respect and love yourself. One cannot jump into all matters with a horrible mouth and acts.
3) When a person has the above-mentioned understanding, then will know when to interfere to negotiate or resolve a problem or not. Take, for instance, it is a common scene, if there are two or more people fighting somewhere, one or a group could go and stop the violence or call the concerned department if it is more than their capacity. But normally people do not do that, they enjoy the intensity and later think it is their birthright to gossip or taunt about the incident.
4) Empathy - is not sympathy to do pep-talk or howling with someone in his or her support. It is trying to understand the situation, keeping yourself in that position, and what you would do.
5) Habit of accusation or not taking responsibility. For example, do you stop doing corruption? Then how can you say this is impossible because no one is going to do this. Be the person who is the executor.
6) Know your duty and rights.
Those who go by these principles of real social skills, become black sheep means the lone philosopher or most unsuccessful person. Then lip servicing, honey-coated preachers become the pioneer and veteran of social skills.
So, what needs to practice Social skills:
1) Growth mindset against an anchored mindset. That means be flexible to accept good ideas. Again the question is having the prudence to distinguish between good and worse. Good and worse is not with any color but it is in people’s minds and behavior. But doing unpaid acting with colors is insanity and ignorance.
2) Courage and sincerity to take responsibility and initiate something.
3) Realization of what to do when to do it. So also, what not to do and when and why not to do.
4) Mindset to keep educated oneself. Because how much you know it becomes less. And, if you do not know or not your cup of tea, silence is the best thing.
5) Introspect, see yourself in the mirror for above the skin and think beneath the skin becoming calm and silent about your own thoughts and acts.
6) Being social does not mean be an animal in a herd. But know the moral and legal restraints too.
7) Do not be a people’s pleasure.
8) Own your identity, no need to try to be someone else or act like another person. Only fools like you appreciate but sane people see the core of your insanity or mental ailment. Better to be respected as the real person who you are.
These words and sentences of social skills seem impractical and unintelligent to halfwits who hoot, bark, or growl. Bookish and ideal to intelligent minds, they think hard to apply. But practical and possible to doers who dare to take even a baby step.

                                                                 Chapter -3
                                             Continuity of Learning Self-Sufficiency

An inquisitive mind, desire to adaptability is designated as Learnability. Enthusiasm to know more. It is the distinctiveness of evolving and growing. A manpower group study shows 40% of employees see the opportunity of development while looking for a new employer.

One can learn to polish own expertise. Go for training, read, practical aptitude, behavioral science, get civic education, personality development efficiency and new technology. A research published that the tendency to know is a reflection of cultural and geographical existence. e.g, in many cultures the male child is encouraged to learn than a girl child. Similarly, people in cold climate are more outgoing & explorative.

The ethos of learnability are learnable:
• Know what you do not know
• Focus on both strength and weakness
• Be alert while choosing from mountains of information, what to learn.
• Use more logic & less partial emotion
• Involve in a diversified society of people from different backgrounds. This will help to get different perspectives.

Lead-in:
• Extra productive
• Conscientious
• Agreeable
• The indicator of career mobility connotes adaptability

No limitation is an obstacle to learning. Need is eagerness.

                                                       Chapter -4
                                            Impetus of Consistency

Living in a fast-paced culture we need everything to get done immediately. This is natural because unless walk with the same speed one remains trailing. We love fast food, instant downloading and same-day shipping. still, to achieve a big goal smart & hard work so also consistency is necessary. Without maintaining regularity grand achievements are next to impossible.

Consistency is the continuity of work. To energize oneself to the course are:
• Set excellent goal
• Look at and feel as if procured
• Watch your priority
• Work on it incessantly
• Realize own efficacy
• Track on effort & progress
• Work on exigency
• Patience

Things to forsake:
• Excuses – money, time, inspiration
• Abstraction – merrymaking, phone, the social networking site
• Comparison – with others
• Frustration – other’s opinion of you can’t accomplish

Discreet use of time, edge and equation will make ceremonial successful to reach to the destination.
