Swimming pool Sunday: In an English village a girl injures herself in a neighbor's swimming pool and a lawyer convinces the mother to sue. Unaware he is using her to further his career, she does so, starting a string of unforeseen events. By the author of A Desirable Residence.

The tennis party: Four very different English couples, from aristocratic to "dreadfully sporty," converge for a tennis party. So begin two days of tempers, shocks, revelations, the arrival of an uninvited guest, and the realization that the weekend was about anything but tennis. A comedy of manners by a first novelist.

Work Description

On a shimmeringly hot Sunday in May, the Delaneys opened their pool to the village for charity. Louise was there, so were her daughters Amelia and Katie - and so, glaring at her resentfully, was her estranged husband. This was supposed to be his day with the girls. While the children splashed and shrieked in the water, she lay back in the sun and dreamed of the new man in her life. But suddenly the perfect day was shattered, as tragedy struck. The consequences of a terrible accident developed into a drama of recriminations, jealousy and legal power-play, in which Louise found herself pulled in three directions at once.
