The first letter (p. 3-13) is by Thomas Mayhew, missionary to the Indians of Martha's Vineyard; the remaining five are by John Eliot.
The fifth of a series of 11 pamphlets, commonly known as the "Eliot tracts," published in London from 1643 to 1671 in the interests of missionary work among the Indians of New England. The present tract was published at the request of the Corporation for the promoting and propagating the gospel of Jesus Christ in New England. cf. p. 14.
