Edition Notes

The second edition of Eliot's Bible, revised by him with the assistance of John Cotton.

Includes "VVusku Wuttestamentum nul-Lordumun Iesus Christ nuppoquohwussuaeneumun," with a separate title page with imprint: Cambridge, printed for the Right Honourable Corporation in London, for the propogation [sic] of the Gospel among the Indians in New-England 1680. Originally issued separately in 1681 (Wing B2759; Evans 279).

Includes "Wame ketoohomae uketoohomaongash David," caption title, i.e. the metrical Psalms, on leaves ²2K3-2Y⁴.

Does not contain the dedication to Robert Boyle present in some copies.

"2000 copies printed ... One of the persons employed on this edition was the Indian James Printer ... Eliot refers to him as the only man they had who was able to compose the sheets and correct the press with understanding"--Pilling, J.C. Bibl. Algonquian lang.

Signatures: pi1 A-5O⁴ 5P²; A-2Y 2[Z]².

LC copy imperfect: 9 final leaves (all after Psalm 119) wanting. Trimmed by binder, some loss of text.
