"Iamblichus "was of major improtance in the elaborate systematization of Neoplatonism that occurred after Plotinus...Like most Platonists of his age, Iamblichus was attracted by the prevalent Gnostic and sometimes magical practices that were supposed to lead to salvation. His work On the Egyptian Mysteries (this work) is a characteristic attempt to reconcile these practices with Platonic philosophy."
