This program includes a number of innovative features, including a dynamic use of projections, compound figures that combine maps with photographs and line drawings, and everyday-life maps, which feature people's perceptions of their surroundings. For instance, Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion Projection centres the globe on the North Pole and arrays the continents around it--no continent commands a central position and this enhances the global theme of the book. --Geography Matters boxes: These boxes feature extended illustrations that show how and why a geographic perspective is important. --"Visualizing Geography" boxes: This feature treats key geographic concepts using descriptive text maps and photographs. A number of topics are covered, such as the development of urban planning in Canada (Chapter 11) and the legacy of the Roman world-empire (Chapter 2). --Human Geography and Climate Change: These boxes discuss the effects of population displacement, health, energy resources, the Kyoto Protocol, agriculture, and options for dealing with climate change. --CBC Video Library Selections: A series of videos drawn from various CBC news programs support this text. Each video connects meaningfully with material presented in a specific chapter. --Activities Manual: This manual contains 20 different activities, tailored to the needs of individual chapters.
