The aim of this publication is to provide an overview of the religious world and practice of the in habitants of ancient Mesopotamia, as it is transmitted to us by the archaeological and, primarily, written Mesopotamian sources. It is not in the first place, a question of reconstructing the history of Mesopotamian religion nor or an analysis of theoretical concepts. Rather, the book provides a practical description based on ancient sources and illustrated continuously with passages from Mesopotamian text -- Introduction page [13].
