Forensic pathologist Dr Karen Laos is approached by the Ministry of Defence and dispatched as a civilian contractor to Cyprus. A soldier stationed on the island has been murdered, the crime bearing similarities to the killing of another serviceman the previous year. The Foreign Office insists on a British citizen performing the autopsy, whilst hoping that Laos's own Greek-Cypriot ancestry will placate the local police force.
